There are sadly some bugs with the new launcher which prevent players from playing Therefor i wanted to create this post to provide steps to download and use the old launcher Nethertheless, you can report bugs regarding the old and new launcher on the bug tracker (if they are not already reported) to make sure the devs are aware of them. The video will show the legacy launcher starting with errors, but then working correctly where i can then launch the game and play it normally
Reasons why i didn't update yet include the following (1) back when my account was created in march 2012, it was a shared account between me and my brother and logged in from a couple of computers. Is there still a way to use the legacy launcher I love my old childhood things and like to keep the way how old things used to be

I haven't used it in years but am curious if possibly to work again. I have used tlauncher for 2 years but after hearing it had spyware, i had to delete it and migrate to a new launcher, i found out tl legacy and downloaded it but after 5 days of using it, my antivirus (malwarebytes) picked up a trojan when i was running 1.18.2 optifine, the file was a javaw.exe file or something like that, it was an exploit.payloadfileblock located at the jre/bin of tl legacy. T legacy worked well for me and the t launcher we have now is a different thing (accused of being a spyware) reply reply remarkable_vehicle16 • It seems like they have ended support for the legacy launcher and thus you are unable to use it
If you want an alternative launcher to the official one, i can recommend polymc. I use legacy launcher, its better and much safer, also its a very light launcher and yet very customizable. Recently i deleted tlauncher because it has spyware in it but now i don't know what launcher to use to play minecraft since i don't have original minecraft
